Prof. Julius Olugbenga Owoyemi is a Professor of Sociology at the Department of Sociology, Prince Abubakar Audu University, Anyigba, Kogi State, Nigeria.
He earned his B.Sc (Hons) and M.Sc Degrees in Sociology from the University of Ilorin, Ilorin, Nigeria in 1992 and 1999, respectively. He then proceeded to bag his Ph.D Degree in Sociology with bias in Medical Sociology from Kogi State University (now known and called the Prince Abubakar Audu University), Anyigba, Nigeria in 2015. To enhance his teaching career, he has a Postgraduate Diploma in Education from the Usman Danfodio University, Sokoto, Nigeria in 2009.
Academic Career
Prof. Owoyemi began his academic career as an assistant lecturer in the Department of Sociology, Kogi State University, Anyigba, Nigeria, in 2005. He rose through the ranks, becoming a full professor in 2021. He was a former Head, Department of Sociology, and the current Director, Quality Assurance Directorate, Kogi State University, Anyigba, Nigeria. Prof Owoyemi, who has assessed Master’s and doctorate theses of students in some Universities in Nigeria, is at present on sabbatical leave at the University of Ilorin, Ilorin, Nigeria.
Research and Publications
Prof. Owoyemi’s teaching and research interests include: Medical Sociology, Social Research Methods, Human Sexuality, Gender Studies, and Formal Organizations. He has published extensively in reputable domestic and international journals and contributed many chapters in books on Breast cancer, domestic violence, breastfeeding, health-seeking behaviour, family planning, sexuality, health education, etc. He has supervised several undergraduate, Masters’ and Ph.D students, and has attended several conferences, workshops, seminars and webinars on different subject matters, nationally and internationally. Prof Owoyemi has also been a reviewer of many journal articles as well as editor-in-chief, editor, and member of editorial boards of reputable journals, nationally and internationally.

Professor Owoyemi is a member of many Professional Associations, including amongst others: the Nigerian Anthropological and Sociological Association Practitioners (NASA), The Australian Sociological Association (TASA), Society for Quality Health in Nigeria (SQHN), International Sociological Association (ISA), Nigerian Association of Health Educators (NAHE), Association for Applied and Clinical Sociology (AACS), and Canadian Sociological Association (CSA).
Awards
He is a Fellow Member, Eudoxia Research University (FMERU), USA; Fellow Member, Eudoxia Research Centre (FMERC), India; and Fellow, Chartered Institute of Leadership and Governance, USA. He is also a life time member of II Programme of Eudoxia
Community Services
Prof. Owoyemi has served on various committees and boards – Departmental, Faculty, and Schools of Postgraduate Studies, and Senates of the Kogi State University, Anyigba and University of Ilorin in Nigeria.
Prof Julius O. Owoyemi is married with one wife and four graduate children. His hubby is reading and teaching the Word of God.
