Biography
Dr. Rui Li is a visiting assistant professor at the Rochester Institute of Technology. He graduated in Computer Science from the Harbin Institute of Technology, China, in 2003. He earned his Ph.D. in Computing and Information Science at Rochester Institute of Technology. After his graduation, he worked as a post-doctoral research associate in the Computer Science Department at the University of Rochester.
His graduate work focused on understanding dermatologists’ diagnostic reasoning processes using probabilistic machine learning approaches. He is interested in designing, developing, and evaluating dermatological image organization and retrieval systems by allowing machine learning models to evolve based on dermatologists’ direct manipulation of the medical images via friendly visualization interfaces. His dermatologist-centered system design allows dermatologists to interactively explore the dermatological image space and drive machine learning models towards intended behaviors. The interplay between dermatologists and models results in an incremental process of image organization to meet experts’ needs and expectations.
